This pipe is a single thickness stainless steel, used primarily for wood inserts into existing fireplaces or repairing damaged masonry chimneys.
When installing a wood burning insert into an existing fireplace there are basically 2 options.
Option #1:use a direct connect kit to go up through the damper smoke shelf area to the first clay tile liner. Option #2 line from the insert all the way to the top of the chimney The advantage of using a full reline is that it resizes the flue to match that of the insert, fireplace flues are often way to large for a normal insert.

Direct Connect Kits The DC consists of a 55" length of flex liner, round on one end for about 12" and the balance is ovalized to go up through the damper and extend up to the first ceramic liner of the chimney. It also includes an end collar to connect the flex to the insert or stove. The DC Kit consists of everything in the DC but also includes a damper block off plate, high temp insulation, & 2-J bolts to hold the damper plate.
